I was unable to figure out how to use
mc without the mouse.(But have heard
good things about mc)
I left the machine on overnight and
cron freed enough space to boot xwindows.
I have searched for the isos using find
as su root but have not found them.
[find / -noleaf -iname '*.iso' | less]
I suspect they do not have an iso extension.
Does anyone know their file name(s) and
location?

were you root when looking for the ISOs? a user may not be able to see
everywhere root can look.
try su - [enter] to get to a root user with the root users path
drop the '|less' part you should not need that
install anacron via urpmi anacron so you don't have to leave the
computer on and also so monthly cron jobs get run.
