Hmmm, but surely if you're rebuilding from the SRPM it shouldn't matter what 
version you are running on, as all it's doing is compiling the same source as 
if you had downloaded it yourself, just producing an RPM at the end instead.  

The only problems may come if the .spec file in the downloaded SRPM has 
requires in it that have a higher version than on your box, but you can 
change those if they are not real requires, or if they are then you would 
need to install them anyway.
