Hi Joe, >Okay, that's weird, Java is one of the few things I've never had a >problem with, and I don't even like having to use it! LOL!
How weird! >Only thing I can think of that if you installed the JDK, there might be >some conflicts or leftovers that are mucking things up. I have checked as many things as possible. My pc's $JAVA_HOME points to the proper directory where java is installed. >The RPM should have insalled to /usr/java/jre1.5.0_06, do you have any >other java folders under /usr from your install of the JDK? For some reason there are 2 folders under /usr/java, being jre1.4.2_09 and j2re1.4.2_09. This is very strange. I unpacked the tar.gz with jdk1.5 to /opt/jdk1.5.0_06 which should be fine. This is also where $JAVA_HOME points to. >Also, make sure the apps that require the JRE know the path to the java >exec, ie. /usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/bin/java. For example, in Firefox, open >about:config and for filter, type in 'java'. My path shows: /usr/java. I am positive that Firefox can find the java executable. If it does not, it shows the nice little window with the coffeecup. If it does, it hits the bad library (/lib/i686/libc.so6) and disappears on me... I also tried influencing library-selection by manipulating LD_LIBRARY_PATH but also that did not get me anywhere. The only option I could still try is to move the i686 subdir away from /lib when booted into rescue mode. (Messing with that library with a running live system is NOT a good idea. I have found that out the troublesome way.) I have checked, and all libs in i686 are also present in /lib, but most of them are smaller in size. I just feel a bit queezy about doing this... And to answer this one: >I'm assuming you quit all Firefox windows after the JRE install, of >course :-) Of course! :-) Paul -- Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words. - Robert Frost http://www.nlpagan.net/linux.php Have you visited http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org yet? ____________________________________________________ Want to buy your Pack or Services from Mandriva?
