After re-reading all the posts about scripts for getting this file I read
the key line(s).

Update the $file and $dbfile variables with the
full path of your DatabaseDirectory as listed in
your clamd.conf file.

As a test I set this to ~/clamsigs/phish.ndb.gz and
~/clamsigs/phish.ndb. Once I did that the script performed as it should. I
know there is a DOH!! somewhere in there, guess I'll learn to read messages
a bit closer in the future.

Thanks to all who replied.
