Maybe I am not understanding very well,  when I want to combine find and grep I type :

find /whereever -type f -exec grep -H "pattern" {} \;

It does show filenames with spaces.
Yep that's certainly an alternative in the case of searching inside files for the pattern. It doesn't
help if you want to search the list of files themselves, and doesn't whenever you want to work
on the entire output from find as exec works on each file individually. So it depends on what
you are trying to do.
