Hi Dan, I might be a bit late getting back to you,...but the DVD drive
should install, be detected and work fine.

Mandriva 2006 is pretty current. So therefore, it should support your dvd burner AND dvd burning.
Also, it should detect the drive and set it up for you automatically. (If it comes with any software, more then likely it will be for windows)
