Hi,
I have installed mdk 2006, on my lap-top. I have also installed open –
office which was with this package.
After installation I can see open-office in the menu and a task bar,
but when I click on it to open, some strange thing happens.
Sand clock keeps on rotating for 10 sec. or so, showing that the oo is
getting loaded. But after that nothing happens, clock disappers, no oo
opens-up.
Then I uninstalled oo from the system and reinstalled the same. But no
improvement. Oo does not open.
Any idea what is happening? And how to get oo running?
Don't you think that because of such small funny problems and many
more, linux does not become popular as it should be?
Thanks,
Jayant.

there is more than one version of open office in the wild, do you know
which version you are trying to get running? (1.9?, 2.0?) have you
installed the other files that go with open office? did you install 2006
from a powerpack dvd or a ' Mandriva one' install?
my guess is you should go into mcc (Mandriva control center, but if you
are in a text window as root and type mcc, it will get you there) do a
search in the software install window for open office and see if there
are some internationalization (i18n) files or help files you might be
missing.
