Hi,

I just installed 2007 Free from the DVD with all packages offered by
default on a clean machine. Everything is OK, but 3D destktop is not
available, MCC says not supported on this system. What is wrong?
Hardware is:

- NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400
- AMD SEMPRON 2800+
- 512M RAM

Same result with 2007 POWERPACK. MANDRIVA ONE runs fine with 3D Desktop
effects on the same machine.

Hi Bela

Not sure if this will help but check that 3D acceleration is available in the hardware
- startup the Mandriva Control Center -> hardware -> set up graphical server
and then in the list of configuration of your video card, select options, and hopefully
you will see a window with Graphic Card Options and a checkbox for
3D hardware acceleration. Make sure that is selected. If that is already selected
then maybe try installing Xgl as the 3D effects need either AIGLX or Xgl and
maybe AIGLX (whatever that is) is not available on your machine.

Also make sure it is running the driver for the NVidia card (I've seen posts about NVidia but don't know enough to say if it is relevant or not). And along the lines of "Is it plugged in?" I take it you have two video connections at the back (one for the motherboard and one for the NVidia) - is it in the right one and Xorg is
configured to use it?

I did have a problem with the 3D not being available when I upgraded. After doing
a clean install (which you have said you have done) then it worked.

If you manage to get it working ... I've have had trouble using the compiz config tool - it keeps crashing out (symptom is the window borders vanish and there is a
core dump) so have been configuring it through the gconf configuration app
(system->preferences->advanced->configuration editor and you'll find compiz under
the apps folder.

It does seem to work on some fairly average machines (mine is a cheap Dell
with motherboard video card with built in 3D effects - at least so the GUI tells
me but that doesn't mean much often!) and it works fine.
