use your favorite editor to edit ~/.bash_profile
you should see a line in there.
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin
change the jre1.5.0_06 to 09 and save
then in term type export $PATH
