hi,
i'm trying to get Xfree86 to work with a S3 SuperSavage/IXC16 chipset
in an IBM Thinkpad T23 laptop.
this appears to be an unsupported configuration for any release of
XFree86 (or at least XFree86 v4.1.0 and v4.0.3 don't recognize it and
the S3 drivers page doesn't mention it).
according to SuperProbe v2.23 (Nov. 2000) this is an unknown chipset:
First video: Super-VGA
Chipset: S3 (chipset unknown) (Port Probed)
Signature data: e18c2e05 (please report)
Memory: 1024 Kbytes
RAMDAC: Generic 8-bit pseudo-color DAC
(with 6-bit wide lookup tables (or in 6-bit mode))
IBM specs this chipset as:
Graphics subsystem
Graphics type SXGA+
Graphics chipset S3 SuperSavage/IXC16
Video RAM type SDRAM
Video RAM std 16 MB
Video RAM max 16 MB
Max resolution (with std video RAM) 1600x1200 65536 colors
Max resolution (with max video RAM) 1600x1200 65536 colors
Max colors (with max video RAM) 16777216
Max colors (with std video RAM) 16777216
Graphics bus interface AGP 4x
and Windows '98 says pretty much the same thing:
System configuration
Chip type: SuperSavage/IXC
BIOS version 5.2e.50-12
Video memory: 16 MB
S3 Driver
Display driver: s3_8m.drv 4.12.01.1042-12.00.42(DX7)
DirectDraw driver: s3_8m.dll 4.12.01.1042-12.00.42(DX7)
OpenGL ICD: pmicd.dll 2.60.49
Metal DLL: Not available
DirectX
DirectX: 8
DirectX Media: 6.03.01.04000
what should i do? does anyone know anything about this chipset?
cheers,
craig.
P.S. i've posted another article about ``XFree86 -configure'' failing
to detect this configuration, but that is more related to it's
"unresolved symbol" problem, and not lack of chipset support.
