A short update...

I bought the shrink-wrap Deluxe WS of RH 7.1 primarily for the convenience and tech
support...big mistake it turns out. While I've received excellent help from this
list, including info pulled from the archives and documentation, my concurrent efforts
to get support from Red Hat...support for which I *paid*...have proved fruitless.
They actually told me on the phone today that they couldn't make the ATI AIW Radeon
card work in *any* configuration and they essentially refused to help me troubleshoot
further problems. I gave them a quick lesson (blind leading the blind?) to try to
bring them up to speed.

I still haven't got the resolution issue worked out. It seems to chainload the Radeon
driver, but to pull out a default resolution of 1792x1344, with no other resolution
offered. Next step is to follow the good advice I've been getting and try updating to
2.4.9 with the latest drm module.

The message for those willing to pay for tech support is stay far away from Red Hat if
you have the ATI AIW Radeon or other relatively advanced cards and want anything for
your money. Not sure how they are with other issues since I haven't been able to get
to that point...
