Hi,
you are running the vga driver which probably only
work with 8bpp to get X with the lousy vga resolution
(640x480) just look in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file
for DefaultDepth 24 and replace the 24 with 8
better would be to identify your graphic card and get
the appropriate driver.
You could already try (not sure it will work) going
 to the graphic device section and replacing there
Driver "vga" by Driver "vesa" and setting in the
screen section DefaultDepth 16 It would help you start
with a reasonable resolution...
