The errors would be nice....
Have you tried configuring, NOT starting X, downloading the closed source X 
drivers from nVidia (www.nvidia.com yes they have linux drivers) compile 
those, modify the config file for usage of the official nvidia drivers and 
then start the server? nVidia's drivers are running smoothly on my X 4.1.0 
here
