Can anyone tell me why my Red Hat 6.1 and 6.2 installations end up with a
screen during installation that has the background fractured like a puzzle and
the text is placed all over the screen like a puzzle too? In addition, my
mouse cursor is a solid square which won't allow me to select by clicking (even
if I could tell what I was clicking on). This installation is on a Pentium
II "Prostar" 5200PT laptop. I believe it has 64MB of memory. The
video controller chip is a Cirrus Logic 7543PCI, SVGA, and it has a 6xCD, 2Gig
HD, and it is being installed as a workstation. I have tried the
"automated" install, the text install, the expert install, and the custom
install. They all failed at the same point, the first graphical screen,
where, I believe I'm supposed to select my mouse. The laptop has a built
in finger pad (PS2) mouse. I have disabled that (after the first few
install failures (uh lessons) and have tried with a two button Logitech and
Compaq mice - same results. The bios have been updated within the last
month by the manufacturer (took them a month too!).
I also tried to install it on my Win2K machine at home but when I do LILO
does not come up. Win2k boots automatically. I installed Win2k
before I installed the RH Linux versions then fdisked the drives when I couldn't
get the dual boot set up. I then installed the Linux 6.1 version followed
by Win2K and LILO would not allow me to select Win2K. I think there is
some contention going on in the MBR but I'm not sure about how to fix it.
Any ideas or articles you could point me too?
Thanks,
