[Newbie]dell inspiron 5000

Hello:

   I currently have a Dell Inspiron 5000 and the 15.1 inch display contains 1 inch thick vertical lines runing across the display!!!   I plugged the system through my desktop monitor and there are no problems involving the motherboard...visa vie the display shows a perfect windows 2000 pic......   I tend to believe it is the display...DA...but I think it may be a connection problem???   Anything  to help me in my dilemma????
