Hi!
I've just installed the FreeBSD 4.3 from scratch and then downloaded and
installed XFree86 4.1.0 (using Xinstall.sh). When I tried to start the X server
(either as root or plain user), it showed me the following:
(WW) checkDevMem: failed to open /dev/mem (Operation not permitted)
linear framebuffer access unavailable
(--) Using syscons driver with X support (version 2.0)
(--) using VT number 9
Fatal server error:
xf86EnableIO: Failed to open /dev/io for extended I/O
I've tried all the recipes from this mailing list related to Xpert2000, but have
still the same. The "-scanpci" option does not work too. What is wrong? What
permissions should I set? From the "ls -l /dev" I have:
crw------- root wheel /dev/io
crw-r----- root kmem /dev/mem
And finally, the section from my XF86Config:
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Xpert 2000 PRO AGP"
Driver "r128"
VideoRam 16384
ChipID 0x5046
Option "AGPMode" "2"
EndSection
Has one any idea?
Michael.
