Hi, seeing your XF86Config-4 might help.
I believe that the order in which you put the font
paths in that file is important: first the fixed
ones...
best is to forget about giving the font path,
commenting out the unix... (I don't remember, I am not
on my box) and just putting the modules speedo and
type1 in the module section.
Anyhow if it does not help post your XF86Config-4
