I've been trying the LM 8.1 RC1 (2.4.8 kernel) and all the 2D app's run well but no 3D. The log file says that agpgart didn't load. So I dug a little through the release notes for the 2.4.10 kernel and I saw a couple of submissions dealing with AGPGART support on the AMD 761 Irongate chipset (which is what's on my motherboard). When I compile this kernel, Linux and 2D X app's run well but I still don't get 3D acceleration. The log file shows lot's of whining about unresolved symbols in radeon_drv.o files and I think some other files. So I downloaded and re-installed X 4.1.0 but now my box locks up immediately afer uncompressing the kernel. Something about "image too bigBEA" or something like that.

I've been goofing around with this for several weeks now and maybe I'm just too early so I'd like to ask the following question before burning anymore midnight oil: Is there anyone on the planet who has successfully gotten 3D apps running with a Radeon 32 MB DDR and an AMD 761 northbridge ? If so, please can I have the magic words.

As a token of our appreciation, my kids and I will speak your name in deepest reverence for one week: "All praise to <YOUR NAME HERE>" ...  ; )

Thanks,
Rob
