To All,

I smoothly installed X11R6 (V 4.1.0) on my recently installed MacOS 10.1
(I have also installed teTeX with no problems)

I try clicking the XDarwin app from the Finder, it gives a black
screen, flicks up a big red X, then dies, going back to the Finder,
with no error messages.

I use the terminal as follows:
----------
[localhost:~] aaron% startx -quartz

XFree86 Version 4.1.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6510)
Release Date: 2 June 2001
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your hardware is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
         reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
Operating System: Darwin
Display mode: IOKit

Fatal server error:
Failed to connect as window server!
Quit the Mac OS X window server or use the -quartz option.

    OsVendorFatalError
    AbortDDX
Quitting XDarwin...
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 61): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
[localhost:~] aaron%
----------
In other occasions I notice it quit saying that a server was already
running. (yes, I have tried starting it many times and tend to get a
different
error response each time...) Although supposedly some server was running,
the standard x commands couldn't open a display.

The installation process said to replace the /usr/share/misc/termcap
xterm entries with those in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/etc/

I did not really know too much here, so I just copied all the definitions
from the later into the former. It didn't do any good though, so I took
them out.

I think if I keep restarting the computer and trying different
combinations
of start up commands I should get it sooner or later...

Many thanks for any help you can provide,

--Aaron.
