Hi, After installing RH7.2 beta (more or less) successfully on 2 desktop I decided to upgrade my laptop which was running RH7.1 (X 4.0.3 and occasionally 3.3.6 when I needed acceleration). I have the following problems 1. trying to use 3.3.6 the well known RH font problem, but for the fact that it does not respond to the various solutions given on this list... 2. 4.1.0 with Gnome as a GUI: Gnome starts but the top 1/2 inch of the screen remains the standard grey pattern of X and that funny things happen at the bottom. opening a window (the editor for instance) the top of the window is often missing and appears at random places on the display. Moving the pointer on top of a messed up part of the desktop (not on top of the gray it is not accessible) restores temporarily that part of the desktop. 3. 4.1.0 with kde as a GUI: As kde starts one can notice that as in gnome, the top of the screen remains the standard grey pattern. However, about half way through the initialisation kde crashes with the ominous sig 11... The problems are the same whether I am on a docking station with a monitor and 1024x768 or just the laptop with 800x600.
The laptop is an antique armada 7710 with an S3 Aurora64+ graphical card and 2M graphical RAM Anyone knows what could be happening? I did try various ways of generating XF86Config and XF86Config-4, I also tried to use my old ones (why should they have changed between 4.0.3 and 4.1.0?) nothing doing...
