This what I understood from your mail is, your are using solaris and X starts
automatically. I don't know much about Solaris. But if the configuration is
Linux-like, you probably have an
/etc/inittab. There you must change the default run level from usually 5 to 3.
Unfortunately, Ican't help you with yor basic problems. I've never seen the SiS620
chipset.
