Hello again, I have solved the problem I was having getting my ATI All-In-Wonder 128 card to work with XFree86 4.1.0. For the benefit of anyone who may experience the same problem I did, here is the solution:
If you have anything (TV, VCR, etc.) connected to the video output connection on that card, UNPLUG IT and re-boot your PC. It seems that the ATI card detects any connections to this port on boot-up, and modifies the card setup accordingly. The XFree86 driver apparently does not like this. Running X with nothing connected to the video out port works just fine. (Of course, you will want to leave your monitor plugged into the card... :-) Paul At 06:21 PM 11/11/2001 -0500, you wrote: >Hi, > >I am running Red Hat Linux 7.1 with the 2.4.9-12 kernel and I'm trying to >configure XFree86 4.1.0, but no matter what I try all I get when I issue >the startx command is a completely black screen.
