HI,

I'm a REAL newbie here. I ony installed Xfree86 on my Solaris 8 Intel as my
graphics board is unsupported so I am REALLY in the dark as far as X windows
goes in general.

Anyway, I'm getting closer to getting it working. I ran xf86cfg which
produced an XF86Config.new file which I edited for the correct mouse
support. I then tested the config file by doing: xf86cfg -configure
/XF86Config.new

OK. Everything works. The resolution is TOO high, but for now I can live
with that. Now that I have a good config file, how do I get my box to boot
into CDE (Common Desktop Environment) using these settings?
If I copy the XF86Config.new file to /etc/X11/xf86config and then reboot, my
system boots up to CDE in the same nasty resolution and nastly black and
white (no color). If I open a terminal and try to run any XFree86
utilities, they give me fatal errors saying that the server is already
running.

If I exit and startup with a command line prompt and try to run startx, I
get an error that XAUTHORITY=/.Xauthority is not an identifier error. I've
searched the internet for this error and have been unable to find any advice
regarding it at all.

IF I type xdm, then I get the command line prompt again, with no error, but
no windows either.

SOOOOO, bottom line is, HOW do I run this thing? Can I run my CDE in X
windows (I read that you could). How. I am lost. Took me a week just to
get this far.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
