Try the VESA driver supplied with 4.x I have an Sis620, and the Sis driver
would NOT work correctly. However all Sis cards were developed to be VESA
compatible. After trying all options, I switched to the VESA driver and
everything works great now.

Subject: [Newbie]many problems with sis 630 support

hello, im new in the list.

i have been reading many mails about sis 630 support.
I have an airis laptop with a debian 2.2 potato and X 4.1

i have heard many things abouts this kind of card configuration and
none of them helped me to configure correctly my card.

The first thing i probed was to use frame buffer and results was a black
screen and to reboot my computer.
then i used sis driver and, it is near to be correct, but i still get
sometimes get the same result that before.
I dont remember where but i have heard about a SUSE server called
XFCom_SiS which supports sis 630 but when i got a download page i saw
that it was just for another similar cards and 2 years ago. so i decided
not to use it.

And finally, i heard yesterday that i should use svga server but it
doesnt appear as a X4.x driver. I have just seen a vga driver, but it
does ntot work with.

another important point is that, with my "unstable" X system working
with sis driver, it works better with kernel 2.2 that with 2.4. normal??

so please, if someone could help me ill be really grateful.

that's all.
    thanks.

mariom.
