thank you very much!  it worked!!  i can't believe it!
i gotta say i love linux sometimes and sometimes i HATE it.  i get very
frustrated when my progress is stalled for 2 days because of some simple,
yet obscure thing like this...=(  i had the same problem with the
x86_serial_nr=0 thing...

P.S.  why does having that file mess everything up?  what is it used for?
do i need glide for something?
