The problem: A new Matrox 450 G dual head does not run under my Suse
Linux 7.0.
System: smp kernel (2 celerons) with glibc21
What I already did (quiet a lot):
1) Downloading all the rpm - archives on the suse
ftp server (the 4.1.0 series),
and installing them as described at the suse site. The install
process run without an error message.
When configuring with xf86cfg, I was NOT ABLE TO SELECT the G450 card!
But according to the Xfree - site, the Matrox G450 is definitly supported!
I didn't work with other drivers like G400. I couldn't install with
sax2 either.
2) Downloading the appropriate Linux-ix86-glibc21
tarballs from the Xfree ftp server.
(yes, I run %sh Xinstall.sh -check first).
Again, after answering a set of questions I ended up with a
successfull sh Xinstall.sh.
Then again,
the configuration process failed.
I hope someone out there (you?!) could help me soon.
I am not interested in 3D / DRI, I just need a quick solution to startx!
Is it worth upgrading to Suse 7.2 or 7.3
Should I try with a standard kernel?
What else could be wrong?
