Hello all,
I downloaded the OpenBSD binaries from ftp.xfree86.org for XFree86
4.1.0
I installed them using Xinstall.sh using the root account.
I added Xfsrv.tgz, Xnest.tgz, Xprog.tgz, Xprt.tgz, Xvfb.tgz,
Xf100.tgz, Xfscl.tgz, Xhtml.tgz, and Xps.tgz in the install process.
I went to /usr/X11R6/bin and ran xf86cfg. I don't (yet) have the
technical info for the Gateway GP6 chipset (uses a built-in graphics
card), but xf86cfg ran okay.
I wrote the XF86Config file to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config
(although I thought the new default is /etc/X11), and XKB to
lib/X11/xkb/X0-config.keyboard.
I also tried xf86config, and entered the characteristics for the
monitors, specs I do have. Then I looked at dmesg:
Dmesg| less produces:
Vga1 at pci1 dev 0 function 0 "Texas Instruments 3DLabs Permedia 2"
rev 0x01
Using Microsoft compatible (2-button protocol), no ChordMiddle,
Emulate3Buttons yes, /dev/mouse, Dell 101-key PC keyboard, U.S.
English, no XKB options, 31.5-64.3 hsynch (documented for Dell
D1728-LS), 50-100 vsynch, 3DLabs Oxygen GMS (PERMEDIA 2) for card,
4096K vmem, OK on modes, 24-bit default color depth, written to
/etc/X11/XF86Config
In either case, going to /usr/X11R6/bin and running startx produces
(even after a reboot):
./startx[100]: xauth: not found
./startx[100]: xauth: not found
./startx[100]: xauth: not found
./startx[100]: xauth: not found
./startx[100]: xinit: not found
./startx[100]: xauth: not found
What did I do wrong?
