Hi A few days ago I posted the question below and received no response. Now I understand that you all are very busy and I do appreciate that this forum exists at all. My point in reposting is two-fold: 1 to let you know that I have tried many (all) of the suggestions posted going back to August, to no avail, I have upgraded my kernel to 2.4.12, applied the gatos drivers, changed the cursor to sw_cursor and back again, and nothing seems to give me a stable display. But I did want to say, that I'm not just posting without doing research and trying to resolve the problem on my own. 2. The second reason for reposting is to ask if there isn't something else, perhaps the contents of my "x.log", the file I I created by doing startx> &x.log, which would help if I included it in my post?
Hi I have: Athlon 1.4Ghz Abit KG7-RAID 1 Gig DDR RAM older(1995) Gateway Vivitron monitor Caldera OpenLinux 3.1 ATI All in Wonder Radeon 32mb Initially could not get any resolution other than 640x480, but all else was correct. Then tried installing Xfree86 4.1.0. Now I could get higher resolutions but X is not displaying fonts, cursor either displays as a white square, or, after modifying my XF86Config-4 file to add "sw_cursor", the cursor now leaves artifacts all over the screen. Additionally, fonts only show up when highlighted and the desktop is extremely garbled. I then reloaded OpenLinux 3.1 which installs Xfree86 4.0..2. For some reason I don't understand, the desktop now looks exactly as garbled as it did under Xfree86 4.1.0. Any one have any suggestions as to how to get fonts to display and desktop to display properly? I checked my font path in my config file and they do point to the font directory. I can't find my card in the cards db, nor any reference to "radeon" in the config file? Help? Thanks in advance. _______________________________________________ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
