make sure that you ran xconfigurator and properly configured it,
also make sure that your

.xinitrc in your /home/user account says

exec gnome-session

if you can't find a .xinitrc file type ls -a
if you still dont see one create one
by useing vi

type vi
presss the a key
type exec gnome-session

press the escape key
type :wq .xinitrc

exactly
