I'm as far as possible from being any kind of programmer so please bear with me. I also have the ATI 64 meg AGP VIVO card and trying to get the wonderful 3d acceleration out of it that it's capable of has been a challenging experience.
However, there is at least one situation that works pretty well. The D1X version of Parallax's "Descent" game - a demo which comes with the SuSE Professional 7.3 distribution - works great, almost flawlessly (640x480 works great, 600x800 seems a bit shaky, and above that the game disappears). I haven't a clue why, but maybe one of you who understand these things can follow this lead somewhere. Everything else either doesn't work at all, or only for a little while. Even "Tux Racer" leads to a machine lock up if played too long (like ~10 minutes). Don't know about the standard "DOOM", because I've never been able to get it working. I also have Loki's "Descent 3" but have never had any successs with it, with RH 6.3, RH 7.0, RH 7.1, RH 7.2, Mandrake 8.1 or Suse 7.3 - although it does seem to get better with each advance in OS distribution. Right now with SuSe 7.3 - to the extend that the project has gone - the problem is the abysmally slow frame rate, which makes the game completely unusable. 2D works fine, of course. I have a home-built machine: 1.2 gig Athlon Tbird, ~760 megs ram, 20 gig HD, KDS monitor, SOYO K7VTA-B mb, A4 Tech optical mouse, standard keyboard - is that everything? Hope this info helps in some small way. On Sunday 02 December 2001 08:35, you wrote: ...9 out of 10 times I try to fire it up.
