Hello,
I am running FreeBSD 4.4 and have one other user besides root with membership to group wheel, which lets me su to root.  Whenever I try to startx or X or anything, I get this error:

Fatal server error:
Cannot open log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log

The permissions for the log file is -rw-r--r-- I think.  When I change it to -rw-rw-rw, I get this error:

Fatal server error:
xf86OpenConsole: Server must be suid root

Another problem I have which may or may not be related is when I am root and run xdm, I cannot get out of it.  I get the login screen, but no matter which user and password I enter, even if it is correct, I get a blank screen for a second, and then the login screen comes back.  I cannot even use Ctrl+Alt+Back or Ctrl+Alt+Del to get out, it just goes to a blank screen and comes back.  Can anyone help? Thanks.

Anant
