Hello Folks,

A warning to anyone contemplating purchasing a new mother board or
laptop or desktop box...

If it has SiS chipset DO NOT BUY IT!!!! Avoid it like the plague!!!
Much better chip sets with supported video are available. And don't
be misled.... the XFree86 web site says it supports the SiS630, it
even comes with a SiS driver, but it DOES NOT WORK!!

I have spent weeks trying to get X working on my laptop with the
SiS630 chip all to no avail. The best one can expect, I'm told, is a
hack which give less than satisfactory results. I have tried all the
hacks and I cannot get it to work at all. RedHat 7.1, kernel 2.4.2-2,
XFree 4.0.3.

Windows ME drives the SiS630 excellently. The driver comes with
WindowsME. I wonder if anyone could port it to Linux? They are
SIS630M.DRV, SIS630M.VXD and vmm32.vxd(vdd.vxd) From Device Manager >
Driver File Details.

Thomas Winischhofer has been exceptionally helpful to me and I would
like to thank him.

Kind Regards,

Graeme.
