I also have a Mobility Card in my Compaq 1700t laptop. I am running Redhat
7.2 and to get it to run I needed to make a change in the XF86Config-4 file.
In that file if you use your favorite text editor such as emacs or vi you
can add the line VideoRam 8192 in the device section and that should work.
This again is on a Compaq and Redhat so you might want to check so more info
first or you can just give it a shot. The monitor should be set to Generic
Laptop that can do whatever your screen size is. Good Luck
