Thanks for the help, but it didn't seem to work - when I run glxinfo i get:
display: :0.0 screen:0 direct rendering: Yes ... So far nothing's changed. I have the same problem, and am trying to get dri enabled on my machine, however I'm using a voodoo card, and so the setup will be different than yours with the nvida.
