Hi,
is there a program like "screen", but for X instead of for terminals?
I.e. a program that would allow me to attach to a running X session
at another X server, or reattach to the session ("X session" =
"collection of running X clients and their state") after X server
crash or shutdown and reconfiguration, or distribute the screens to
multiple X servers (e.g. in a classroom)...
The purpose for me is to be able to work upstairs, then go to the
downstairs office when I'm needed there and resume work at that office
right where I left off, with my StarOffice still showing the same
state of the same document etc. But I can imagine a whole lot of
other uses...
I imagine that the program would have to be an X "proxy" server, with
the X clients conneting to it, and the program piping them to a set
of attached real X servers, where the set can contain any number
(even 0) of X servers. I know little about the internals of X but I
can imagine it should be possible.
In fact, isn't Xnest a step in that direction? It is a kind of X
proxy server, right? I don't really understand what is its purpose,
though.
Thanks for any replies.
