Hi there,
I have recently installed a new Manrake 8.1 distribution, and got the
international settings wrong during the install.
As a result, I seem to have 'dead keys', where one presses tilde or
single-quote followed by a normal letter, to achieve effects for words
like caf.
I can turn this off on the linux consoles by using loadkeys.
I quite like my newfound international characterset, except when working
with certain programs which don't seem to recognise the deadkey idea,
thus making it impossible to type ", which is a very important delimiter.
I would like to turn this off in X, but I don't know how! ( Ideally,
one could turn it off/on while in X, but I will settle gladly for
non-runtime config ).
Any help from international users is very welcome.
thanks,
David.
In /etc/X11/XF86Config I have:
Section "Keyboard"
[...]
XkbKeycodes "xfree86"
XkbTypes "default"
XkbCompat "default"
XkbSymbols "us(pc105)"
XkbGeometry "pc"
XkbRules "xfree86"
XkbModel "pc105"
XkbLayout "us"
XkbVariant "nodeadkeys"
and in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 I have:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard1"
Driver "Keyboard"
Option "AutoRepeat" "250 30"
Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
( which of these is definitive?! )
Other pertinent info:
- using KDE for window manager. I can't find any doco to suggest that
KDE adds its own layer of Keyboard control, but it may be relevant.
