I am using an IBM Thinkpad 570 (Model 2644 3BG) with WinNT 4.0 installed with SP6.
I used VMware 3.0 workstation on my Thinkpad to install the testing (potato) version of Debian.
There were some preconfigured XF86Config files I found on the internet for the IBM 570 series and I tried some out with no success.
* I should mention that I switched line: Device "neomagic" with Device
"wmware" as I have a special library vmware_drv.o which recomends to
do this in the readme.
http://www.vmware.com/support/reference/common/guest_linux_xf864.html
* I have changed the default Display Depth to 15 as I got an error
message before telling me that that is the only value accepted.
I am assuming the problem might have to do with a particular message in the log file: (WW) VMWARE(0) : Failed to set up write-combining range (0xfc000000,0x180000)
NOTE: The file /etc/mttr is empty if that says anything?
I have also tried running the xf86config program from new with no results.
I thought I should mention that I am a newbe with linux and XFree86. :)
It would be great to get any tips or tricks on how to get this running?
I have included in this email the XF86Config file I had the most luck with and the log file XFree86.0.log.
Thanks in Advance!
Ron
