Hello,
I am using Linux for a couple of months now and I still can't find a way
to make my display look right maybe someone can help me out here.
I have SuSE Linux 7.2 installed on a partition with Windows98. I am
using it on an AMD
1GHZ with SIS 630 chipset. I always get a display that is squeezed in on
both sides by
about 1 inch. I had the same problem with Windows 98 but I was able to
adjust the setting there. On Linux it's not that easy. The only way I can
view the display full size
is with the frame buffer in 640x480 which is somewhat stupid because
some of the
window boxes are so big that the bottom is off the screen and I can't
move it any higher
I tried using the lilo with vga= but I get a lot errors and no screen if
I use anything other
than 769. I tried messing with the modlines but it did not work. I also
used the xvidtune
but it doesn't do anything. I even upgraded to XFree86 4.1 even though
it said it supports
sis 630 but it has some problems.I have a Goldstar multisync monitor.
I am running out of things to try. Do I need another video card ? I
don't want to wait
until they have full support for this card.
I am hoping someone has come up on this problem and has a solution.
Thanks in advance
Greg
