> Where shall I start looking? > > Any help is appreciated. only suggestion I have, is to try xvidtune, and see if poking at some of those settings can help you get a usable picture. run xvidtune on the second head of a multi-head display (put the monitor you want to tune, on the primary output); or else run it over the network (you'll have to turn on some options in your XF86Config-4 file; but I don't know what they are off the top of my head). basically; it'll take a lot of experiementation, but you should be able to generate a working modeline in an afternoon of work.
