What does dmesg look like for your mouse? You said that it sometimes
shows up as not configured. Is this a cordless, ps/2, serial, or USB mouse?
/dev/mouse is not a module, it's usually a symlink to the device that is really
your mouse. The device that is really your mouse should show up in dmesg.
