Sorry, I don't think there's any way at all to construct the CVS/
subdirectories in every directory without getting the whole thing again.

Ya know, it might be worthwhile to include the CVS subdirectories when
making tarballs of something this big.  It would make a big thing even
bigger, but would save a lot of time for those trying to keep up later
with read-only CVS.
