I think there are diffswhich can do the trick. A diff file is not the complete program but only the differences from one version to the next, maybe the comparison to a patch would be closer. you gotta head over to xfree86.org, take a look at their ftp and somewhere there you'll find sth like a file with 4.0.0 and diff in the name. guess there's even a short manual on this in the package. untar: hmmm lemme see if i remember this right: tar xzvf <file.tar> or, if you got midnicht commander, you should be able to dive into the tar archive by selecting it and copy its content into a directory, just like you would in norton in msdos/win.
if you're not sure about the tar command (or don't trust me :), try man tar and read. and read... and read... and read... and read... :D Hmmm Hmmm schrieb: > Hi there! > > I am a newbie in Linux and need some help with installing an upgrade 4.1.0 > to my 4.0.0 xfree86 server. > > I installed redhat linux 7 one of these days and couldn get my gui running, > I could login using the root or any user account but when I tried to start > my xserver with 'startx', it said server crashed/no screens found.
