don't know about OpenBSD but not all distro give you both servers and then again with those which do not all use two different XF86Config. If in your log you see "compiled for 4.1" you can assume that you are running X 4.x.x doing a man XFree86 should give you (among other things) the sequence in which the server looks for the configuration file...
