Sorry to hijack your discussion folks, but since you
seem to know about keymaps ... I have a 'problem' where
'deadkeys' appears to be turned on for an international
character set, but I would be quite happy with US-ASCII
and not having the deadkeys.

( eg. I have to type "" to get ", which is something I
do reasonably frequently to quote strings when
      programming )

Are any of you able to advise how to turn this feature off?
It was turned on unintentionally when installing Mandrake 8.1

(If there is a way to toggle it without leaving X, that would
be nice, since I would occasionally like to type caf with
the accent, which is my only use for international charsets
at present :-)

I tried fiddling with some keyboard-looking things in
/etc/X11/XF86Config and /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, but without
result, and have not been able to track down any other relevant
configuration file.

thanks!
David.
