I can answer the first to some degree, as I've already asked and was shunned for asking. Seemingly the kapm-idled has been a thing of MUCH too much discussion. I assume it's trying to free resources or some such, but *supposedly* it's really not sucking up that much of your CPU. I'd suggest google newsgroup search of this, you'll get your answer quick... keep in mind, they archive EVERYTHING in the past 10 years or so there.
