After getting my hands dirty I've figured it out. The xdm
config file was pointing towards a lot of resources that
just weren't in the same place anymore.

Since most of the x11 configs (for 4.1.0) are now in
/etc/X11/, all the configs were pointing at
/usr/X11R6/blah... It wasn't looking at Xsession file in
the right place, and by redirection, didn't look at my home
.xsession. All works fine now :)

I appologize for thinking aloud here, but I must thank Ted
for putting the idea into my head about indirection, and
tracing back the clues. Certainly true in this case!

Thanks
Chris Poole
