Shawn,

Look at the content of "Default" which is located under
/etc/X11/gdm/Sessions.

That file should have the following 2 lines only:

#! /bin/sh
exec gnome-session

If there is some other stuff, comment it out by placing hash
marks in the beginning of each line "#" (without the quotes)

Kill X by pressing CNTR+ALT+BACKSPACE. You SHOULD get gdm now
and the the default window manager should be Gnome.
