i am rather new to mac os x (10.1.x) and unix, and have no experience
installing anything major via the terminal. however, i have a strong desire
to learn, and i thought i might get my feet wet by downloading and
installing xfree86 on my mac. toward that end, i have been perusing files on
the xfree86.org site, and have been looking around at other sites (found via
google) to see what people have to say. unfortunately, there is too much
information geared for intermediate to expert level computer users and too
little information for novices/newbies such as myself.
honestly, i need a very simple primer or tutorial, something that explains
what i am going to be doing.
i should note that i am not afraid of the command line, nor am i intimidated
by following clearly written directions. i have enabled the root account in
os x and changed settings in cron using pico, so i feel pretty confident.
so... any basic pointers/assistance would be helpful, especially regarding
the following:
> general installation options/cautions
> optimization for dual processors (? is there ?)
> which is better: downloading binaries or what?
