RH does not create xinitrc but uses .Xclients which is a symlink to .Xclients-default. 
Since
xinitrc comes before in the search list creating an xinitrc with the desired options 
works.
However, changing .Xclients-default also works and has the advantage that it is the 
file which is
modified when switching desktops...
