The xc directory is the root of the *source* directory tree.  If you
installed pre-built binaries you don't have it or need it.  Since you
don't already have the source, you'd probably be better off to install
the 4.2.0 binaries, rather than getting the 4.1.0 source and the patches
and building from source.

If you really want to build from source, you can get the 4.2.0 sources
from ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.2.0/source/X420src-1.tgz
(X420src-2.tgz and -3.tgz may not be needed).  Look at
http://www.xfree86.org/current/BUILD.html for more info.
